2021 CWSS Student Poster Competition
The California Weed Science Society (CWSS) will host a 2021 Virtual Student Poster Competition. Students will be expected to submit a title for their poster by November 15, 2020, and an abstract for their poster by December 15, 2020. The poster will need to be submitted as a PDF by January 10, 2021. To be considered in the competition, the student will also need to create a short video (less than five minutes) and upload it to YouTube at the time the poster is submitted. The video should be a quick rundown of your poster, as you would present the content to a conference participant in person. (Why/what problem, what you did, results, and implication of the research.) Videos should be uploaded as “unlisted” so only those who have a link will be able to view the video.
Poster PDF’s and the YouTube video links will be posted on the Society’s website, and will be made available to conference participants and judges. Students will be judged on the content of the poster, the quality of research, and their ability to communicate the research through the video.
The contest will have an undergraduate and graduate component which will be judged separately. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top students in each competition.
Videos can be recorded through a variety of software, but PowerPoint has a simple function to record video. Here is a link to an example video I created to introduce the concept of the virtual poster competition. https://youtu.be/qulFW07WGDM
