County 4-H Events
Presentation Day gives members an opportunity to show off their public speaking skills in a variety of ways, including presentation, speech, demonstration, skit, or table-top display.
Favorite Foods Day is a competition event to test skills in nutrition, menu planning, and food preparation. The "favorite food" entries are judged on appearance, flavor, and texture in categories including salad, main dish, dessert, and a special category of "beef".
Home Arts Extravaganza is an action-packed, fun-filled day with activities that have included gun cleaning and safety, gardening, knitting, cooking, sewing, scrapbooking, and arts & crafts.
Livestock Judging Day is fun for the whole family! Participants begin the day evaluating classes of beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, sheep, swine, and goats. Following the judging, members revisit each class and are given reasons for the class placements. There are Junior, Intermediate, Senior, and Adult age groups and awards are given.
The annual Dog Show is a fun event to showcase dog handling skills learned in the Dog Project. There are competitions in showmanship and obedience.
Animal Skills Days are held for showing and working with dairy and pygmy goats, small animals, large animals (beef, horses, sheep, swine), and dairy cows.
The Livestock Auction is always a highlight of the Lassen County Fair. 4-H members are able to put their animals on display and receive recognition for their hard work. Sheep, goats, rabbits, cows, pigs, and chickens are shown and sold at the Junior Livestock Auction. 4-H members showcase their arts and crafts at the annual fair and win many ribbons with their projects. Displays by 4-H clubs are set up so others can see what activities the clubs are involved in. 4-H clubs also have fun participating in the Lassen County Fair parade.
Achievement Night is held in October and is the time to give recognition and awards to members and leaders.
